As many as 30 people were injured during a clash between CPI (M) and BJP supporters at various locations across Tripura ahead of Assembly Elections in the state. CPI (M) cadres allegedly hurled a crude bomb at state BJP Vice President Subal Bhowmick on Friday.

While the BJP has claimed that the state Police is not doing enough to stop the ongoing violence, the CPI (M) has alleged that BJP workers had attacked their party members on Friday and Saturday. The state BJP President, Tripura, Biplab Kumar has also lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India, demanding the removal of DGP Ajay Shukla.

It must be noted that the Police have detained five CPI (M) activists in Khowai district for allegedly assaulting 10 villagers who had recently joined BJP from CPI (M). BJP state-in-charge Sunil Deodhar stated “All attacks took place at night and we cannot say what CPI (M) workers will do tonight. We have already filed complaints with the EC. Two CPI (M) workers were arrested with pistols at Mandai but the Police have released them.

CPI (M) spokesperson on the other hand has alleged BJP of using money and muscle power to win  the election, and that CPI (M) party workers have been victim of the violence inflicted by the BJP across the state.
