The Assam bound New Delhi-Guwahati Rajdhani Express escaped an accident in Bihar’s Khagaria district when a gangman spotted a crack in track and alerted the driver to stop the train.

The Express was routed to pass through Chaidhabanni halt, where the fracture was located, between Mansi and Maheshkhunt stations on Barauni-Katihar rail section of Sonepur division of East Central Railway (ECR) zone.

The Railway gangmen  saw the fracture in the track while patrolling the section between Mansi-Maheskhunt and placed a detonator before running with banner flag to stop the incoming train, said the ECR Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) Rajesh Kumar.

The loco pilot of 12424 Guwahati Rajdhani Express upon seeing the red banner flag applied the emergency brakes and stopped the train much before the point at which the fracture was detected.

“There has not been any lapse in safety,” added the ECR CPRO. He also lauded the villagers for assisting the Railway officials in avoiding accident.

The Rajdhani Express was halted approximately for 40 minutes at the site from 0802 hours to 0845 hours, he said adding the train proceeded after the fractured rail was repaired by the railway personnel.

Meanwhile, an inquiry committee has been set up to probe into the incident, said the ECR CPRO.
