Assam government is planning to launch a special recruitment drive to fill up the vacancies meant for differently abled persons in various departments in the state.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal insisted on clearing all vacancies backlog of differently-abled persons in various government departments within December 20 this year.

Sonowal on Tuesday directed the Social Welfare Department to finalize the selection criterion for filling up of nearly 4,500 posts reserved for differently-abled persons.

Sonowal further asked the social welfare department to prepare a calendar for all the other government departments outlining the selection process for simultaneous recruitment all throughout the state.

Currently, around 4419 posts are lying vacant under physically handicap category in different government departments and the number is expected to rise as assessment of such posts in  few other departments are still going on.
