Australian cricket team suffered a panic after a rock was thrown at their bus on its return to hotel Radisson Blu from the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in the city. Opener Aaron Finch tweeted out an image showing a broken window in the bus. “Pretty scary having a rock thrown through the team bus window on the way back to the hotel!!,” said Finch in his tweet.

This was the first international fixture to be held at Guwahati’s Barsapara stadium and the first international cricket match in the city in seven years. The loss is a rare one for India in 2017, especially against Australia.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda ordered Sports Minister Naba Doley M Angamuthu, DC and DGP Mukesh Sahay to probe into the stone-throwing incident on Australian cricket team. He also directed Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia to conduct inquiry into incident and submit report.

Meanwhile, two people have been taken in police custody in connection with stone-throwing incident, said Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Hiren Nath.

Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also apologised to the Australian team. “Our deep apology. People of assam never endorse such behaviour.we will punish the guilty” said Sarma in his tweet. Australia also witnessed a similar incident during their last tour of Bangladesh.

Australia had recorded a comprehensive eight-wicket win over India in the match. It marked the end of an eight-match winning streak for India in T20Is against the Australians.
