The 74 year old Jagdish Mukhi was sworn in as the 30th governor of Assam on Tuesday at 9:55 AM. Jagdish Mukhi was administered the oath of office and secrecy by the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, Ajit Singh at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.

After the oath taking ceremony the newly appointed Governor will visit the Kamakhya temple and seek blessings of Goddess Kamakhya. He will also visit the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Kshetra in Jalukbari.

The former Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jagdish Mukhi had arrived in the city on Monday and was received and welcomed by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on arrival at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.

The 74 year old Jagdish Mukhi was born on December 1, 1942 in Dajal, Dera Gazi Khan, Punjab, British India (Now in Punjab, Pakistan) and was the former Lieutenant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar. He was the minister of Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation and Higher Education in the Delhi government. He was awarded as the best planning minister of the nation by the then Union planning minister Pranab Mukherjee.

An active BJP and RSS member, Mukhi was born to Punjabi Hindu family. He has been credited for launching Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in a record time of 8 months when he was the Minister of Higher Education. Apart from his other accolades, twice he was awarded as the best MLA in Delhi Vidhan Sabha.
