It has been estimated that the growth in GDP during 2017-18 will reach 6.5 per cent as compared to 7.1 per cent in the preceding year 2016-17, Chief Statistician T.C.A Anant said while addressing a Press conference on first Advance Estimates of National Income 2017-18 in New Delhi on Friday.

The Chief also informed that the growth in manufacturing sector is expected to slow down to 4.6 per cent this fiscal, down from 7.9 per cent while electricity, gas, water supply and other utility services sector is expected to grow by 7.5 per cent as compared to growth of 7.2 per cent in 2016-17.

The agriculture, forestry and fishing is likely to slow to 2.1 per cent in the current fiscal from 4.9 per cent in the preceding year, Anant added.

However, Construction sector is expected to grow by 3.6 per cent as compared to growth of 1.7 per cent in 2016-17. The growth rate in per capita income is estimated at 5.3 per cent during 2017-18, as against 5.7 per cent in the 2017-17.
