Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), has decided to give its approval for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama “Padmavati”, subject to a few changes. The decision was made after the meeting of CBFC’s examining committee on Thursday. The movie has been given a UA certificate.

Among the changes suggested, CBFC wants the movie’s title to be modified as ‘Padmavat’ on the basis of the attributed material/creative source. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali had earlier said that the movie was based on the 16th-century epic poem “Padmavat” by Malik Muhammad Jayasi.

The board has also suggested modifications in disclaimers, pertinently adding that the film does not want to glorify the practice of ‘Sati’ and also relevant changes in the song ‘Ghoomar’ to befit the character portrayed.

A statement issued by CBFC said that the film was approached with a balanced view keeping in mind both the filmmaker and the society. It adds that Bhansali, and the producers have agreed to make the necessary changes.

The board has confirmed that the certificate will be issued after the required modifications are carried out and the final material is submitted. It may be mentioned that release of ‘Padmavati’ was deferred pending censor clearance and amid protests across various States claiming that the movie distorts history.
