Over 40 people are feared killed, when two state road transport buses were washed away in flash floods caused by cloud burst in Himachal Pradesh. The incident occurred in Urla area of Mandi district where two buses passing through Pathankot-Manali National Highway were washed away in the muddy water of cloud burst.

Rescue efforts by personnel of Army and National Disaster Response Force are on to retrieve the bodies of the victims. So far 16 bodies have been recovered from the debris. The rescue teams so far have recovered 12 bodies even as the search to trace the remaining missing people is still on.

Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and Transport Minister G.S. Bali visited the spot to take stock of relief and rescue operations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed pain at the loss of lives due to landslide related accidents in Mandi district. In a tweet, the Prime Minister’s Office said, an additional team of National Disaster Response Force is going to Mandi to take part in the rescue and relief operations and to provide all possible assistance required. Modi has also prayed for the quick recovery of the injured.
