India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj met Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani in New Delhi today and signed four agreements in areas related to health, transport etc. The two leaders held delegation level talks and reviewed entire scope of bilateral and regional issues.

Addressing the media, Sushma Swaraj restated India's commitment to support Afghanistan as a secure, stable, united and prosperous nation. “Strategic partnership with Afghanistan is an article of faith for India and both nations remain united in overcoming challenges posed by cross border terrorism and safe havens and sanctuaries of terrorism”, she added.

 

 

 

 

Afghan Foreign Minister said, Afghanistan's friendship with India does not mean hostility with others in the region. He said, current regional trends bring India and Afghanistan closer than ever to protect and achieve the socio-economic, security and trade interests. Mr Rabbani said, he and Mrs Swaraj discussed easing of visa regimes to promote trade and people to people contacts.

 Rabbani will call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence this evening. The Afghan Foreign Minister arrived in New Delhi yesterday on a three day visit to India.
