Incidents of question paper leak are not new in Assam. There have also been incidents of cows eating up answer sheets. In another such event, almost 100 percent similarities can be seen in the Physics question paper set by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) and the model question papers of Goalpara Science Academy.

Also 90-95 percent similarities were found in the Chemistry and Mathematics question papers. This has created reactions all over the state, with the All Assam Students Union demanding an inquiry into the matter.

The AHSEC has however denied any incident of question paper leak. AASU leaders Dipanka Kumar Nath and Lurinjyoti Gogoi have alleged the council of having ties with the junior college and have demanded the issue to be solved within 48 hours.

A four-member committee has been set up by the AHSEC for a probe into the matter. The committee comprises of three faculty members of Cotton University Santanu Baishya (Department of Physics), Rajiv Bhattacharya (Department of Mathematics) and Manjit Kumar Bhattacharya (Department of Chemistry), and is headed by retired Districts Sessions Judge BC Das.

It must be noted that as many as 2,56,280 students have appeared in the HSSLC examination this year, of which 38,095 are of the Science stream.
