Assam has been gearing up for the Advantage Assam: Global Investors’ Summit and will be pushing for ‘pollution-free industrialisation’ during the summit scheduled on 3rd-4th February, 2018 in Guwahati, choosing most of the focus areas for the meet that have negligible carbon footprint.

Assam Assam Industry and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary on Thursday said, “The present government of Assam has been championing for long the need of a rapid industrialization of the State. However, it has been firm on not being proponent to pollution-creating industries.”

“The State, thus, has carefully crafted its industrial design so as to provide access to those technology-enable industries which have negligible carbon footprint,” Patowary added. He pointed that most of the 12 focus sectors selected for ‘Advantage Assam’ are pollution-free sectors, like IT and ITES, Tourism, Handloom and Textile, Power, Agriculture and Food Processing, Bamboo, Inland Water Transport and Civil Aviation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Summit on 3rd February 2018 in Guwahati and Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan; Amir Hossain Amu, Minister of Industries Bangladesh along with several other Union Ministers including Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources; Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister for Commerce and Industries; Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Law and Justice; Smriti Irani, Union Minister for Textiles & Information and Broadcasting; Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship; Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region; Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for the Ministry of Home are expected to take part in the proceedings.

The State Government has also been able to draw the attention of industry leaders like Ratan Tata, Tata Group; Mukesh Ambani, Reliance Group of Industries; Dilip Shanghvi, Sun Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd.; Anand Burman, Dabur; Dr. Subhash Chandra, Chairman, Essel Group and ZEE; Amar Abrol, Air Asia India; Rashesh Shah, Chairman, Edelweiss; Sushil Goenka, Managing Director, Emami Group; Sanjiv Puri, ITC Limited; Harshavardhan Neotia, Ambuja Neotia Cements; Dr. Naresh Trehan, CMD, Medanta- The Medicity; Subhash Ghai, Executive Chairman, Mukta Arts Ltd; Balakrishan Goenka, Chairman, Welspun Group have confirmed to be a part of the summit deliberations.
