The Assam Government has been unsuccessful in spending even 55% of the budget allocation of the previous fiscal year. After the grand success of the Advantage Assam, Investors Summit 2018, which saw around Rs 1 lakh Crore worth of investment, simultaneously it was seen that the Government was not able to spend on the various policies introduced in the budget 2017-18.

The opposition has pointed out that due to the insincerity of the Finance Department led by Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in implementing the budget allocations; the other departments as well are unable to spend the amount.

The submission of the figures of expenditure has cut out a clear picture of how much the Government has done for the development of the state. It must be noted that an amount of Rs 42934.89 of the total Rs 95856.31 has been spent. Also, only 1-2% of the total amount spent has been done for the development of various departments.

Moreover, with only a few months remaining for monsoon, the Water Resources Department has spent only 2.39% of the amount allocated, for the development and various other purposes.

MLA Aminul Islam stated that funds have not been released due to the lack of flexibility in the Finance Department. He also advised the Cabinet ministers to pressurise the Finance Department to release the funds.
