On Teachers’ Day, thousands of teachers were found protesting in support of their various demands across the State. On the second day of the Assam Legislative Assembly on Tuesday several teachers’ organizations staged demonstrations at the State capital.

The Asom Rajyik Prathamik Shikshak Sanmilani (ARPSS) staged protest outside Assam State Legislative Assembly. On the other hand, Asom Sikshak Karmachari Aikya Mancha (ASKAM) and All Assam Recognized ME Teachers’ Association (AARMETA) also staged dharna at Dispur Last Gate on teachers’ day.

Meanwhile, at Dighalipukhuri, the All Assam Secondary Additional (Contractual) Teachers’ Association held a protest meeting in support of their demand for equal pay for equal work till regularization of their posts. Supporting the protest, ABSU President Pramod Boro, ULFA leader Anup Chetia and senior journalist Prakash Mahanta also took part in the protest.

In demand for payment of their salaries in accordance with the seventh pay commission recommendations with effect from January 1, 2016, Asom High School Fixed Pay Sikshak Samiti staged protest at Lakhimpur. In Sivasagar, teachers protested in demand for releasing their salaries of 66 months.
