Be it NDA or UPA, whoever forms the government in Centre, there outlook towards Assam have not yet been changed. Deceits in the name of flood relief packages continues even in the days of Prime Minister Narendra Modi led NDA government in the Centre. His package to the flood hit Assam itself reveals this report.

Assam witnessed devastating floods in 2017 which killed at least 158 people and affected 11 lakh people in 21 districts. The state is yet to receive a single penny announced by the Prime Minister during his day long visit to Assam on August 1.

Data revealed by the government of Assam suggested that the Centre has released only Rs. 456.30 crore to flood hit Assam, which is the stock of State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). It is worth mentioning that earlier, Centre has fixed Rs. 600 crore for SDRF, Assam. Shockingly, Assam government has failed to spend that Rs. 456.30 crore to relieve the flood affected and repair the infrastructures of the State, which have been devastated by the floods.

Answering the question in the Assembly, Assam Minister Pallab Lochan Das stated the government has provided ex-gratia to the families of 146 victims out of 158. He said according to Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the Water Resource department has faced a loss of Rs. 1,797 crore. Along with the Water Resource department, PWD faced loss of Rs. 516 crore, Guwahati Development department faced loss of Rs. 334 crore, Town development department faced loss of Rs. 250 crore, Power department faced loss of Rs. 228 crore, Agriculture department faced loss of Rs. 193 crore and fishery faced loss of Rs. 119 crore.

State government’s coalition partner AGP has also expressed concern against the Centre’s outlook towards Assam.
