After a wait of 30 long years, an Assamese film has shined at the National Film Awards and won the Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) at the 65th National Film Awards. Village Rockstars, produced and directed by the young and talented Rima Das, was declared the best feature film.

Along with the best feature film award, the film also won the awards for best editing (Rima Das), best child artist (Bhanita Das) and best audiography (Mallika Das).

Rima Das, who hails from Chaygaon of Kamrup district, has expressed her happiness on winning four awards and thanked the entire team of Village Rockstars.

Utpal Borpujari’s film ‘Ishu’ bagged the best feature film award in regional category (Assamese).

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal congratulated the winners on their success, saying that it is a proud moment for regional cinema and shows the upward graph of Assamese Cinema in today’s age.

The jury of the film awards was headed by film maker Shekhar Kapur and comprised of lyricist Mehboob, screen writer Imtiaz Hussain and Kannada director P Sheshadri among others.

Sridevi was awarded the best actress for Mom and Vinod Khanna was awarded the Dada Saheb Phalke Award at the event. Bengali actor Riddhi Sen was awarded the best actor award for his role in the film ‘Nagar Kirtan’.
