In a shocking revelation, it has been reported that four out of the six medical colleges in Assam are without the services of a principal-in-charge and superintendents.

This surely is a matter of concern for the health sector of Assam amidst the present government thriving hard for a long time on ‘Parivartan’ but are clueless on whom to appoint for such an essential role in a medical college and hospital. And to no serious amusement, expectedly only Guwahati Medical College and Hospital has a principal-in-charge

While four of the medical colleges are without any principal-in-charges, all the six medical colleges are without the services of a vice-principal or Assistant principal-in-charge. And the government, like always, has displayed a lethargic behavior when it came to filling up the important vacant posts. The government has yet not figured out any steps to fill up the posts.

Another embarrassing and sad news is that the treatment at these hospitals and colleges have deteriorated due to these factors as management has taken a downward slide. Another important factor is the unavailability of specialist doctors.

Due to the unavailability of specialist doctors such as cardiologists at the Silchar Medical College, it has been now publically notified that the hospital has stopped providing with pacemakers to patients. The government’s recent scheme to provide free pacemaker has gone in vain.
