Since the publish of the first draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC), the Assam Congress astonished the people of the State by their awkward statements one after the other. With their unauthentic and mismatching remarks, their double faced image has been coming out of the dark. While Ex Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi, State Congress Chief, Ripun Bora and opposition leader, Debabrata Saikia have been trying to take the credit for NRC; Women Congress Chief and MP from Silchar, Sushmita Dev on Monday stay affirmed that NRC is a “conspiracy” against Bengalis and protested against it by organizing a giant rally at Silchar.

Congress Chief Ripun Bora at a press meet in Guwahati while trying to fix the mess made by his party leaders said, “The statements by the members from Silchar are totally individual and has nothing do with our party. The Congress has always worked for the people of Assam. I on behalf of Assam Congress congratulate the entire employees who made the NRC possible.” He added that Sushmita Dev’s remarks are not the words of their party. Reacting to this Sushmita Dev on Monday remaining firm on her view while addressing a party meet, organised by the Silchar Youth Congress said, “NRC is a conspiracy to weaken the Bengalis of Assam.” According to her remark, the State government’s employees were used against the Bengali people and they were trying to fool the Bengali community and she will not let that happen. When 70 percent to 80 percent names from the upper Brahmaputra Valley were included in the first draft of NRC why only 20%-30% names were only there, she asked adding “There is a Conspiracy going on and she will fight against it.”

She attacked the Chief Minister of the State in sharp words. The MP said, “The Chief Minister lacks knowledge of the Constitution; he doesn’t know what the Constitution say. According to the CM those people will not be given Democratic rights whose name will be not registered in the NRC, but the Constitution allows Democratic participation of also those whose names were not included in the Register. I would like to ask the CM what will happen to those 5 lakhs or 10-15 lakhs people whose names will not be included in the draft of NRC? Will he detain them to Bangladesh? Will Bangladesh accept them? Is there any treaty discussed with Bangladesh if it has to be done?”

The MP while attacking the All Assam Students Union (AASU) said she will not do unruly protest like them but will not let her fight down until the Bengali people will get justice. It is to be noted that AASU adviser Samujjal Bhattacharya and MP Sushmita Dev shared the same stage during a function of the All Assam Dimasa Students Unions 27th establishment day. Though the MP did not mention anything about NRC, the AASU Founder has said that they will not rest till Assam is free from illegal immigrants and will continue their work to give the right to the Indigenous people.
