Come Sunday, spectators in Sarusajai stadium in Guwahati will be in for a treat as a 16 year old child prodigy from Japan sets foot for his 2nd World Cup appearance in a career already being praised as the ‘next big thing’ in football.

Takefusa Kubo, dubbed as the ‘Japanese Lionel Messi’, will enlighten the football pitch at Indira Gandhi International Stadium in Sarasajai on Sunday when Japan takes on Honduras in the second Group E fixture of FIFA Under-17 World Cup. This will be Kubo’s second World Cup appearance as he has already represented Japan in FIFA Under-20 World Cup.

The prodigy’s footballing adventures are highly talked about as his skills and talent landed him a place in the Under-20 World Cup squad when he was only 15 years and 351 days old. Kubo is the only player in this Under-11 World Cup who has previously represented or has experience at the big stage as the World Cup. This surely is an amazing achievement for a 16 year old to add to his growing and bright CV.

A product of the Barcelona youth academy, the wonder kid netted 74 goals in 30 matches in his first season for Barcelona Under-17 team. That grabbed eyeball of the footballing giants who from then have been very appreciative of the 5 ft 7 inch tall prodigy from Japan.

Kubo would surely like to leave his mark this World Cup and make the tournament his own, which promises to be an event that is definitely going to provide him with a worldwide platform to showcase his Messi like dribbles, freekicks, goals and skills.
