31 assembly constituencies of Assam have witnessed unimaginable increase in population since last 16 years. The Union Home Ministry has expressed deep concern over the massive increase in population in these 31 assembly constituencies. This shocking report was revealed by the Assam Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary on the last day of Assam assembly on Friday.

Informing the matter in Assam assembly, the Minister also said that the Union Home Ministry has ordered the Assam government to submit reports on the reasons of massive increase in the population in 31 assembly constituencies in the State.

It is worth mentioning that, according to the reports published by the Chief Electoral Officer of Assam, Baghbar constituency has witnessed the highest increase in population with 80.15% increase since last 16 year. Data published by Chief Electoral Officer suggested that, there were 81,242 voters in the year of 2000 in Baghbar constituency, which increased to 1,46,538 voters in 2016.

Similarly, Abhayapuri (N) witnessed increase of 68.21%, Abhayapuri (S) witnessed increase of 59.95%, Mancachar witnessed increase of 60.69%, South Salmara witnessed increase of 65.6%, Dhubri witnessed increase of 59.15%, Gauripur witnessed increase of 55.34%, Gulakganj witnessed increase of 54.49%, Bilasipara (W) witnessed increase of 56.2%, Bilasipara(E) witnessed increase of 50.72%, Bijni witnessed increase of 50.71%, Goalpara(E) witnessed increase of 55.54%, Goalpara (W) witnessed increase of 55.71%, Jaleswar witnessed increase of 61.01%, Sarbhog witnessed increase of 51.52%, Barpeta witnessed increase of 52.74%, Jania witnessed increase of 65.08%, Senga witnessed increase of 53.81%, Boko witnessed increase of 51.03%, Dispur witnessed increase of 66.46%, West Guwahati witnessed increase of 54.81%, Dalgaon witnessed increase of 60.13%, Laharighat witnessed increase of 50.09%, Dhing witnessed increase of 55.77%, Rupahihat witnessed increase of 51.63%, Jamunamukh witnessed increase of 62.79%, Hojai witnessed increase of 50.75%, Lumding witnessed increase of 57.51%, Dhemaji witnessed increase of 51.88%, Jonai witnessed increase of 62.48% Dhekiajuli witnessed increase of 52 % in this period.

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister also informed the Assembly that along with these 31 assembly constituencies, 11 districts have also witnessed massive increase in population since last 16 years.
