  • Respect your mother tongue, culture, literature: VP M Venkaiah Naidu at Sadin-Pratidin Group’s Achiever Awards

Speaking on the occasion of Sadin-Pratidin Group’s Achiever Awards 2017, India’s Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu highlighted the importance of respecting and accepting one’s own mother tongue, culture, literature, traditions etc while conferring the awards to the achievers from the region.

The Vice-President said “English language is necessary, but mother tongue is most important. I feel proud to know that you the people of Assam respect your culture, traditions, folk arts and literature.” The Vice President complimented the Sadin-Pratidin Group for instituting the awards to recognize the achievements of individuals from different professions.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also urged the Sadin-Pratidin Group to take the Achiever Awards on a pan India basis and felicitate more deserving people in the country.

Venkaiah Naidu also described Assam as a beautiful State with dutyfull people and colorful arts. He also said, “Assam and the rest of North Eastern States are known for their rich culture, traditions, literature, folk arts and of course the breathtaking scenic locales,” during his speech

M. Venkaiah Naidu conferred the ‘Sadin-Pratidin’ group’s Achiever Awards for Life-time Achievement to eminent researcher of folklore, singer and lyricists of Assam Dr Birendra Nath Datta. The Vice President also conferred the Achiever Awards for Social Service on Meira Paibi of Manipur, while Achiever Awards for Environment on Sikkim Government. Representative of Sikkim government received the award from the Vice President.

Pranab Barua, head of the Apparel and Food Retail Businesses of the Aditya Birla Group, received the Achiever Awards for Corporate Sector. The ‘Sadin-Pratidin’ group’s Achiever Awards for Sports Person of the Year went to archer Pramila Daimary, while owners of last year’s ONGC I-League winner Aizawl F.C. received the ‘Sadin-Pratidin’ group’s Achiever Awards for Sports Club of the Year.

On the other hand, eminent director Munin Barua received the Achiever Awards for Cultural and Sahitya Akademi Award, 2005 winner Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi received the Sadin Journalism and Literature award from the Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu.

Artist Benu Mishra received the ‘Sadin-Pratidin’ group’s Achiever Awards for Excellence in Art. The Achiever Awards for Music went to Lou Majaw, known to be the Bob Dylan of North-East.
