The Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA) has asked Cricket Australia to review the suspension periods imposed on Cameron Bancroft, David Warner and Steve Smith following the ball tampering row during the recent Cape Town Test.

It may be mentioned that following the ball tampering row, Smith and Warner were both banned from international cricket for a year while Bancroft was suspended for nine months.

"The proposed penalties are disproportionate relative to precedent. We ask that consideration be given to recalibrating the proposed sanctions, to consider options such as suspending or reducing part of the sanction” the ESPNcricinfo quoted ACA president Greg Dyer as saying. Dyer has asked Cricket Australia to consider allowing the players to return to domestic cricket earlier as part of their rehabilitation.

Pointing at incidents of ball tampering in the past, Dyer said that he sanctions imposed are comparatively disproportionate and added that the association is in support of the players. The banned players have time till Thursday to make a call so as to appeal against the penalties or not.
