There will be a new winner in the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy. In Pune, hosts Maharashtra beat defending champions Karnataka by 53 runs to eliminate them from the competition, thus ending an unbeaten run that lasted 37 first-class matches dating back to November 2012.

The second surprise result of the day was Assam holding on for a draw in Guwahati, thus getting one point to end on 26 points, one more than Delhi, who did not feature in this round. Rain washed out the morning session and that, coupled by an early stumps owing to bad light, did not leave Bengal enough time to take the remaining eight wickets needed for an outright victory. Still, three points took them to second in Group A with 28, behind Vidarbha (29) and ahead of Assam. Assam resumed the final day at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium on 72/2, and lost six wickets before the umpires were forced to call off play.
