India thrashed Sri Lanka by an innings and 53 runs in the second Test to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. This win gave India their eighth successive series win.

Sri Lanka, asked to follow on after conceding a 439-run first innings lead, were dismissed for 386 late in the second session on the penultimate day. While Dimuth Karunaratne went on to score his 6th Test ton before lunch, it was Jadeja who gave the visitors the first breakthrough when he dismissed the centurion for 141.

Jadeja also took the wickets of Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews, Diluwan Perera and Dhananjaya de Silva to complete a five-wicket haul.

Going into the lunch break, Dimuth Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews had shown good heads on their shoulders as they kept mixing caution and aggression. In fact, it looked like India could well be forced to come back and bat a second time after enforcing the follow-on on Saturday. But that wasn’t to be as Jadeja had other plans going into the post-lunch session.
