India beat Sri Lanka by an innings and 239 runs in the second test in Nagpur after the Lankans were all out for 166 shortly after lunch on the Day-4. The victory on Monday puts India 1-0 up in the three-match series after the rain-hit opening test in Kolkata ended in a draw.

Meanwhile, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took 4 wickets for 63 runs in the second innings, overtaking former Australian fast bowler Dennis Lillee as the fastest to 300 test wickets in the process. He played the crucial role in taking the wickets on the fourth day of the second test as Sri Lanka threw things away. While, Ashwin played the main role; other bowlers- Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja all picked up two wickets each.

Dinesh Chandimal was the only batsman to offer any challenge or stood up to the Indian bowling and was rewarded with a fifty. BCCI will announce India's squad for the remainder of Sri Lanka series as well as South Africa tour today. Captain Virat Kohli, who had allegedly asked to be rested in December when Team India faces Sri Lanka for 1 Test, 3 ODIs and 3T20Is, is likely to be given the long-due break from cricket before the much-anticipated tour of South Africa begins.

The third and final test will be played at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla from Saturday.
