A 7.3 magnitude earthquake jolted the border region between Iraq and Iran, killing more than 200 people and injuring an estimated 1800, according to local media.

While most of the deaths have been reported in Iran, the quake's epicenter was across the border in Iraq, about 350 kilometers north of Baghdad.

"There are 207 dead and more than 1,686 injured," Behnam Saeedi, the deputy head of the Iranian government's crisis unit set up to handle the response to the quake, told state television.

The earthquake was felt in several provinces of Iran but the hardest hit province was Kermanshah, which announced three days of mourning.
