North Korea has announced that it has successfully tested an intercontinental ballistic missile on the orders of the country's leader, Kim Jong Un.
The land-based missile was fired from near Panghyon airfield, and flew for 37 minutes before landing in the Sea of Japan.
The ballistic missile was fired from a province near the border with China. Japan's government said the missile is believed to have landed in Japan's exclusive economic zone in the Sea of Japan but no damage to ships or aircraft in the area has been reported.
It flew about 930 kilometres.
Pyongyang has increased the frequency of its nuclear and missile tests in recent months, raising tensions.
It's North Korea's 11th missile test this year and comes amid increasing frustration from US President Donald Trump about the lack of progress in curbing Pyongyang's nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
