Ministry Expansion: AGP demands two more berths in Assam cabinet
The Asom Gana Parishad on Tuesday has demanded two more members from the party in the state ministry, during the soon expected expansion of the State Cabinet.
It was decided in a executive committee meeting at party headquarter in Ambari, Guwahati on Tuesday.
The much awaited expansion of the Sarbananda Sonowal-led ministry is expected to be undertaken after Magh bihu.
The Assam cabinet currently has 11 ministers—7 from the BJP, 2 from ally AGP and 2 from ally BPF. As per Article 72 of the Constitution, the number of ministers in the state cabinet cannot exceed 15% of the total number of members in the state legislative assembly.
Assam has 126 legislative assembly members and the maximum number of ministers allowed is 19.
