Controversy has erupted as Gammon India officials on Monday said that the construction of the Saraighat-II bridge over the Brahmaputra in Guwahati is still not completed. Gammon India is engaged in the project.
Gammon India officials and engineers on Monday inspected the over Rs 300-crore, one-storey motorable bridge after Pratidin Time aired news about some holes that were created after the bridge was opened for nearly 2 hours on January 13.
The Saraighat-II bridge over the Brahmaputra was opened for 2 hours on January 13 after thousands of vehicles were stranded for hours on eve of Uruka.
It may be mentioned here that Assam PWD Minister Parimal Suklabaidya had earlier announced that the bridge was fully ready.
The construction activities of the bridge started in 2006 and because of numerous problems it took Gammon India more than ten years to complete the construction.
