Security has been beefed up across Assam ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the state, scheduled for May 26 next.

Police today carried out search operation around Khanapara playground where the PM would address a public meeting.
The city has virtually been turned into a fortress. A team of Special Protection Group (SPG), the specialised commando group for security of VIPs, conducted trial runs of the alternate routes for VIP movement.

Director General of Assam Police Mukesh Sahay said that fool-proof security arrangements were being put in place for the PM visit.

During his day-long visit to the state, PM Modi will inaugurate the Dhola-Sadiya bridge over Brahmaputra river in Upper Assam, lay the foundation for an extended campus of Indian Council of Agricultural Research at Gogamukh and an AIIMS campus at Changsari near Guwahati.

The Prime Minister will also address the nation from Guwahati on the occasion of completion of three years of BJP-led NDA government in the Centre.

BJP-led Assam government will also celebrate its first anniversary on the same day.
