Preparations are underway in full swing for the annual Ambubachi Mela at the Kamakhya Temple in Nilachal Hills.
It is scheduled to begin on June 22.
The Kamakhya temple will be closed after the performance of the traditional snan, puja and other rituals. No darshan will be allowed to devotees from June 22 till June 25.
The temple door will be opened for devotees around 7 am on June 26.
Around 2 million visitors from across the world will visit the Mela this year. The Assam government has directed all departments concerned to complete the arrangements for the ensuing Ambubachi Mela.
The Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal instructed the officials to ensure that utmost cleanliness is maintained on the temple premises and its surrounding areas.
 He also directed officials to provide adequate number of toilets and uninterrupted power supply in entire area.
The four-day Ambubachi Mela to mark the annual menstruation of a goddess in Guwahati’s Kamakhya Temple starts from Thursday.
Six camps will be set up for the devotees. More than 100 buses will pressed into services to ferry the devotees to the Nilachal hillock.
