Central Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change (Independent Charge), Anil Madhav Dave, passed away today at the age of 60 due to lung cancer. Dave took charge as Minister of State on July 5, 2016.

Dave was born on 6 July 1956 in the city of Badnagar, in the Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh. He earned his master’s degree in commerce from Gujarati College, Indore, specialising in Rural Development and Management.

He also began his political career during college time, taking part in the JP Movement, and was elected the college president. Dave joined Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and worked for conservation of the Narmada River.

Earlier, Gopinath Munde, another Union Minister of the Modi government has died in a car accident in 2014.

President Pranab Mukherjee said, “Shocked by sudden demise of Union Environment Minister Anil Dave; deepest condolences to his family & well wishers.”

“I was with Anil Madhav Dave till late last evening, discussing key policy issues. This demise is a personal loss,” said PM Modi after knowing the news of Anil Dave’s demise.
