Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah on Monday announced that Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind is the National Democratic Alliance’s nominee for the Presidential election.
 
The decision is taken at the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting today which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers and senior party leaders.
 
No decision has yet been taken on the Vice President nominee, Amit Shah said.
 
Ramnath Kovind, born on October 1, 1945, is currently the Governor of Bihar. Kovind is from Dalit community and has been an eminent lawyer for many years in both High Court and Supreme Court.
 
Ramnath Kovind is also a two time Rajya Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh He was elected in April 1994 from Uttar Pradesh and served for two consecutive terms for 12 years till March, 2006.
 
Hailing, Ram Nath Kovind for his work for the marginalised and poorer section of the society, Shah said that PM Modi has already had a word with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh and informed about the their nominee for the president post.
