Two senior IAS officers were on Wednesday interrogated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials in Guwahati in connection with a fraud case.
Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Shamsher Singh (IAS) and lower Assam commissioner Ahmed Hussain (IAS), who were the excise commissioners at the time of the scam, were summoned by the CID to its office at Ulubari in Guwahati for the probe.
Dibrugarh excise commissioner Ajay Bayan, Hailakandi excise commissioner Amarendra Nath and Excise Inspector Bijay Das were also summoned by the investigating agency.
They are charged of resorting to fraud and thereby depriving the State exchequer of excise taxes amounting to more than Rs 25 crore. Liquor baron Rajesh Jalan, who is the owner of BG Bond and Warehouse, was arrested in connection with the case.
