Reactions are coming after Chief Secretary of Assam Vinod Kumar Pipersenia made the controversial comment on imposing censorship in the media of Assam in a strategic meeting held in the head office of Four Core of Indian Army in Tezpur. He was alleged to be involved in conspiracy against the freedom of the fourth pillar of democracy.
It is quite mentionable that, a meeting had been took place in headquarter of four core of Indian Army from 11 AM to 1:30 PM on 12 May. Chief Secretary of Assam, VK Pipersenia presided over the meeting where high ranked officers of CRPF, BSF and 9 colonel and brigadiers were present. DGP of Assam Police, Mukesh Sahay, Special DGP Kula Saikia, additional DGP (Special Branch) Pallab Bhattacharya, IGP of BTAD Anurag Agarwala and other police officers were also present in the meeting.
A brigadier informed the Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia about the broadcast and publishes of statements of banned militant outfit including ULFA in some of the electronic channels and newspapers of the state. He requested to take immediate action against those media houses.
After the statement of the brigadier, the Chief Secretary asked additional DGP (Special Branch) Pallab Bhattacharya about their stand against those media houses. He ordered the additional DGP to take strict action against those media houses by arresting the editors of the media houses and issuing summons to the owner of the houses, who broadcast and publishes of statements of terrorist organisations.
However, leading media houses of the world, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and Al Jazeera have been publishing news about the terrorist organisations including ISIS in the Middle East have not faced any censorship in publishing content of terrorist by the UN.
On the other hand, in a statement issued by the public relation officer of Assam Police denied any discussion regarding censorship in media of the state. He also cleared that no discussion was made about repealing of the AFSPA. The statement demanded that only the security measure in the state on the eve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Visit was discussed in the meeting.
