Two persons were killed due to incessant rains that sparked flash floods in Assam’s Guwahati city on Tuesday, disrupting normal life and causing immense suffering to lakhs of people.
 
The dead included a school student and a man who were electrocuted on Zoo Road.
 
The incessant rains that began on Tuesday morning blocked the two main arterial routes in the city, triggering traffic congestion and submerging several localities.
 
Incidents of landslides were also reported at Kamakhya, Zoo Road and Chandmari in Guwahati.
 
The educational institutions in Guwahati will remain close on Wednesday due to massive rainfall, Kamrup Deputy Commissioner M. Angamuthu said.
 
The administration ordered the closure of schools and other educational institutions on Wednesday.
 
The Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked the administration to stay alert in case of emergency.
 
Kamrup Metropolitan district authority in Assam has set up five relief camps for the affected people.
 
The authority has identified Rajgarh, Dhirenpara, Bhaskar Nagar, Noonmati and Nepali Basti areas for setting up of the relief camps.
