Though Sarbananda Sonowal led BJP coalition government has vowed to upgrade the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in time, some government officials have been involving in document fraudery.

The Gauhati High Court has extended serious concern on document fraudery in the process of upgrading NRC.

Surprisingly, some government officials were providing fake certificates to the declared foreigners who lodged in the detention camps. This includes those declared foreigners by tribunals along with those convicted under various Sections of the law, including the Foreigners Act.

The High Court has accounted the state government, while hearing a writ appeal by a woman named Maijan Nesa, who was previously declared as foreigner by Foreigners Tribunal of Barpeta, on how government employees have been providing documents to illegal migrants.

Earlier, hearing the case number 2091/2003, Maijan Nesa had been declared as foreigner by Foreigners Tribunal of Barpeta on 20th January 2005. Later challenging the verdict of Foreigners Tribunal, she submitted a writ appeal to the High Court.

While hearing the writ appeal 52/2016, the High Court asked the additional senior advocate, how these gaon-burhas and Panchayat Secretaries have been issuing documents to the people, who had been previously declared as foreigner by Foreigners Tribunals.

The senior advocate Tarun Chandra Chutia, who represented the state government, assured the court that he would convey the matter to the government.
