While NRC updating process has been undergoing in the state, a group of protesters on Saturday vandalised the NRC office of Howly in Barpeta district. The group, which was protesting against some local problems in the area vandalised the office of Howly Town Committee including the NRC office, which was inside the Town Committee office.

Registering two different cases, Howly police has already detained two people, named Mainul Haque and Jahidul Islam in connection with the vandalism. The NRC office in Howly has been shifted to Barpeta following the incident.

It is worth mentioning that, the group protested against the dilapidated condition of the roads in the number 3 ward under the Howly Town Committee.

Meanwhile various organisations in the district have condemned the incident and demanded probe into to the matter. Sources in the district administration said that the files of the NRC office are secure as the damages were minor.
