Happy Valentine’s Day: Couples celebrate the day of love
Valentine’s Day is being observed all over the world including India. It is celebrated on 14th February every year.
Friends and lovers exchange cards, candy, gifts and flowers to each other on this day. Valentine's cards are often decorated with images of hearts, red roses or Cupid.
The Valentine's Day is named after Catholic priest Saint Valentine who lived in Rome in the 3rd Century. During those days, many Romans were converting to Christianity, but the Emperor Claudius II was a pagan and created strict laws about what Christians were allowed to do.
The poet Chaucer in the Middle Ages was the first to link St Valentine with romantic love. This was the beginning of the tradition of courtly love, a ritual of expressing love and admiration, usually in secret.
Valentine's Day is celebrated in the most countries. Different cultures have developed their own traditions for this festival. In some parts of the world, Valentine's Day is observed as a day for expressing love between family members and friends, rather than that of romantic couples.
However, Valentine's Day is generally associated with romantic love. Gifts of flowers or a single red rose is sent with romantic messages to loved ones and couple spends special time together.
