Hubert Minnis has been elected as Bahamas Prime Minister by defeating Perry Gladstone Christie on Wednesday. The former Leader of the Opposition in the House of Assembly of the Bahamas and Free National Movement (FNM) candidate becomes the 4th Prime Minister of the country.
Minnis also becomes the second Prime Minister from FNM party since 1973 of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
After victory, Minnis said, “My fellow Bahamians, the people have spoken and we have been given a mandate for change.”
Christie, leader of Progressive Liberal Party, conceded defeat and made telephone call to Minnis wishing the leader of the Free National Movement success. “I understand as perhaps few others the challenges that await Minnis, and I wish him only success on behalf of our nation. He has my full support for a smooth transition,” he said.
