Nepal parliament will elect a new prime minister today. The parliament meeting scheduled for Sunday could not take place as main opposition CPN (UML) did not allow house proceedings.
Three major political parties have agreed to resume parliament from today. In a meeting held in the chamber of Speaker Onsari Gharti last evening to resolve deadlock, top leaders of Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre) and CPN (UML) agreed to resume parliament proceedings.
The meeting to elect new prime minister is scheduled at 1 PM. Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba is the only candidate for the premiership. Deuba requires 297 votes out of 593.
The ruling coalition including Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Center and Nepal Loktantrik Forum have more than 300 MPs.

Rashtriya Prajatantra Party and Federal Socialist Forum Nepal have decided to support Deuba. Many small parties are also supporting him. Rashtriya Janta Party Nepal can also give conditional support.
As per parliamentary mathematics Deuba is likely to be elected with two third majority.
