At least 42 people, including personals of Bangladesh army have been killed in landslides and flooding after heavy monsoon rains in southeast Bangladesh. Dozens have been admitted to hospitals and many remain missing.

Deputy Commissioner of Rangamati Mohammed Manzurul Mannan said the army men were engaged in rescue operations when another landslide buried them.

According to repoets, 25 have been died in Rangamati, 6 in Bandarban and 11 in Chittagong.

Sources in the army have confirmed the death of 2 officers and 2 soldiers in Rangamati’s Manikchhari area.

Amidst heavy rains and hostile natural atmosphere, the army, fire service, civil defence, and police are conducting rescue operations as the death toll rises with more bodies being recovered.

Roadlinks from Chittagong city to Bandarban, Rangamati and Cox's Bazar have been snapped. A number of fire service units have been stranded on the roads delaying the rescue operations.

Bangladesh experienced heavy monsoon rains throughout Monday because of the influence of a depression formed in the Bay of Bengal.
