132 military companies for Assam Elections


As electoral race heats up in Assam with all political parties battling out against each other to win people’s mandate, the Assam police have also geared up to ensure regulation of model code of conduct for the upcoming elections.

Kuladhar Saikia-led state Police force geared up for a smooth and incident-free general election this year, a fool-proof security strategy is being finalised by State police top brass in consultation with the Election Commission of India.

During a review meeting today at State Police Head Quarter, DGP Kuladhar Saikia said about their preparation for coming general election. “We are doing everything with utmost seriousness in order to avoid any untoward incident”: Saikia said.

State’s 90 paramilitary forces have been deployed for the election process in the state and additionally 33 companies have been sent by central government to the state.

The DGP has asked all licensed gun owners to deposit their firearms with the police ahead of the poll process.

Social media will be under the scanner to counter spreading of rumours, hate speeches via various social media platforms ahead of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections in Assam.
