2018: A glorious year for Assam sports

2018 was a glorious year for Assam sports scenario.

At first, Dhing Express Hima Das won gold medal in 400-meter rally category at World Junior Athletics Championship held in Finland. Hima became national sensation overnight. Later she went on to clinch three medals at the Asian Games, 2018. She was conferred with Arjuna Award for the feat.

On the other hand, Assam youth cricketer Riyan Parag has brought hope for the State's cricket. He was a member of U-19 World Cup winning Indian team. He will be seen playing for Rajasthan Royals in the 2019 session of the IPL.

Assam's teenager Hriday Hazarika won gold in the junior men's 10m air rifle event at the International Shooting Sports federation World Championships in Changwon, Korea. He also won the gold medal at the 10th Asian Air Gun Championship, held in Tokyo, Japan.

Apart from these, Lovlina Borgohain and Bhagyabati Kachari also brought laurels to the State in boxing. Lovlina won a bronze medal for India at the 2018 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships and Bhagyabati won a gold medal at the Ahmet Comert International Boxing Tournament in Istanbul, Turkey in the 81kg category. She was also presented the 'Best Technical Boxer Award' of the tournament.

Meanwhile, 2018 was also an important year for the State's bodybuilding as Assam's Golap Rabha bagged the title of Mr. World 2018 in the WBBF Championship of Bodybuilding competition.

Assam's 19-year-old badminton prodigy Ashmita Chaliha won her first senior international title at the 2018 Dubai International Challenge in the women's singles event. Later in December, she won the Tata Open International Challenge Badminton Championship at Mumbai.

The year of 2018 signs off with the hope of 2019 being even more glorious.
