Bobeeta Sharma is likely candidate for Congress in Guwahati and a formal announcement is expected later today.
The Congress had a tough time zeroing on the candidature of Guwahati seat and wanted a sophisticated one with no baggage to represent the most prestigious seat of the region.
Bobeeta Sharma contested for the Guwahati East Assembly constituency unsuccessfully but this time she is emerging as a strong candidate. Her name was cleared by the Central Election Committee (CEC) today.
Notably, Kirip Chaliha was also trying hard to get the ticket and he could influence some of the senior leaders but the Party president Ripun Bora, Congress Legislature Party leader Debabdrata Saikia were opposed to him.
The grass root Congressmen are also unhappy with Kirip Chaliha as no one is sure whether he is a Congressmen or in BJP as he is keeping one foot in both the parties.
