AASU led 28 orgn. protest today  on C’ship Bill

Under the leadership of All Assam Students Union (AASU), 28 ethnic organisations is staging a protest against Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 on Thursday.

A protest rally is being organized from Ganesh Mandir , Ganeshguri to Dispur. Thousands of AASU activists and activists of 28 other ethnic organisations has descended on the Guwahati city.

The state is under constant turmoil due to the Central and State Governments plan to amend the Citizenship Bill.

The bill proposes to grant citizenship to religious minorities from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan. AASU said the proposed legislation poses a grave threat to the and the demography of the state.

Earlier, a joint meeting of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and the ethnic communities students' organisations questioned why the Assam government cannot take a decision when a BJP-supported government in Meghalaya took a cabinet decision against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.
