The 3rd Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF) will be held from October 31 to November 6 at Jyoti Chitraban and Sankardev Kalashetra.
The festival will telecast more than 100 films from across the 65 countries.
Addressing a press conference here in Guwahati, Chairman of Jyoti Chitraban, Pabitra Margherita said that the renowned filmmaker of Poland Krzysztof Zanussi will be present as the Chief Guest of the film festival. He also informed that 40 films in the national level will participate in the festival other than the films from the Northeast.
Assam Cultural Minister, Naba Kumar Doley who was also present in the press conference said that a memorial in the name of renowned litterateur and educationist Tabu Ram Taid will be constructed by the state government in the embankment of Subansiri.
The minister also said that an organization would be set up to practice the Mising language and literature.
The film festival will be inaugurated with an Iranian film name ‘Charcoal’ (COMORO in Iran language). It has been further informed that the budget of the film festival is between Rs. 2crore to 3 crore rupees.
Margherita further stated that Ambassadors from 12 countries will also participate in the event and 26 nations have urged to participate in the festival. He also said that the registration has been started from August 1 through both online and Offline. Other than the students of Northeast, students from Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Kerala will also participate in the festival.
