The CacharPolice have arrested four people in connection with the sensational incidentthat took place after a truck ran over a Kali Puja immersion procession atMeherpur area in Silchar on Wednesday night.
The arrestedhave been identified as Sudip Kumar Pal, Prasenjit Ghose, Laku Debroy andShamim Ahmed Lashkar. Following the accident, the angry mob had set ablazeseveral vehicles, pelted stones at the police and blocked the road.
The drunken driver of the truck was coming from Aizwal. It was suspected that the truck had run over some vehicles somewhere near the Sonai area and was speeding to run away. Two people have died in the accident, and several others were admitted to hospital in critical condition.
