Four Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans lost their lives and two other were severely injured in an encounter with Naxals in Bijapur Chattisgarh. P Sundar Raj, DIG (Anti-Naxal Operation) informed that one ASI, one head-constable, two constables of 168 battalion lost their lives in an IED blast in Awapalli Police Station area. The two injured jawans sent for medical treatment.
Chattisgarh is scheduled to go to polls in November. Bijapur and other Maoist-affected areas in Chhattisgarh will hold the first phrase of elections on November 12.
In August, the Centre withdrew more than 7,000 CRPF personnel who were deployed to conduct anti-Maoist operations from West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand to redeploy to Maoist-hit regions of South Bastar in Chhattisgarh.
At least 15 suspected Maoists were killed during an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma in August.
