Tripura has set a record by planting 6500 saplings in a minute around the NH-8 at Udaipur in Gomti district of Tripura on the occasion of Banmahotsav.
Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb expressed gratitude for organizing such an event saying that this step under ‘Green Tripura’ initiative will not only preserve environment but shall also add to the beauty of the State.
He also appealed everyone to work for ‘Clean and Green’ Tripura.
Deb said that the state forest department is taking all necessary steps to preserve environment and nature and this time the department has planted a bit matured saplings so that the survival of the plants are better.
The CM further informed that during the current year 2018-19, plantation has been done in around 5500 hectares area out of which 71 percent of saplings has survived. In 2014-15, saplings have been planted in around 1500 hectare areas out of which 50 percent of the saplings survived.
Deb also reiterated that the new record set on Sunday by planting 6500 saplings in a minute is appreciable. He also added that in Indian culture trees are worshipped in order to save and preserve the environment for the future generations.
