70 Assam organisations stage protest in New Delhi

The members of 70 ethnic organisations including the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samittee (KMSS) are holding hunger strike demanding scarping of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in New Delhi on Sunday.

The fast is set to cast a shadow over the Winter Session of Parliament, beginning from December 11. Akhil Gogoi, the KMSS leader said that the Bill is a threat to Assam as it, if passed, is going to spell disaster for the identity of the indigenous people of Assam. "BJP is misleading the people of Assam on the would-be impact of the Bill on them," said Gogoi while speaking to Pratidin Time. According to the organisations, the Bill is also set to violate the Assam Accord.

In Assam, these 70 organizations staged a number of agitations against the Bill. This is their first such agitation against the Bill at the national capital.
